thal|lo|phyte «THAL uh fyt», noun.
any one of a large group of plants in which the plant shows no differentiation into stem, leaf, and root. The simpler unicellular forms reproduce by cell division or by asexual spores; the higher forms reproduce both asexually and sexually. Bacteria, algae, fungi, and lichens are thallophytes.
